Here's an amusing little tale.
Yesterday, I walked past the cinema and spotted that they were running Clerks II. "Yes!" I thought, and rushed in and bought two tickets. It was an 23:55 showing, but hey, I thought, it'll totally be worth it.
About 6pm that evening, I looked at the clock on the shelf. "Gosh," I thought, "I'm tired" and put some more coffee on. Then had some more coffee at around 8. And then at around 10. At about 11 I thought I should probaby go for a short nap, because I was completely knackered.
At 23:40 when my alarm went off to tell me to get up and see the movie, I briefly consulted Dorothy, who it turns out wasn't actually up for it either, and with a certain satisfaction, I dragged my sleepy ass off the couch and went to bed.
Of course, then I woke up at 6am this morning with an idea for a peephole optimisation that should shave a couple of cycles off the inner loop of a crypto benchmark I was looking at on Friday. Fun things to do tomorrow!
In other news, my ThinkPad's backlight seems to be going a bit: it's developing a dark patch at the bottom middle of the screen. I've been pondering over the last week, when it comes time to 'decommission' this machine, I may attempt to use it to replace willow. It's not all that much slower when it comes to CPU duties, and willow is under utilised anyway. All I'd need is a fast cardbus ethernet interface to connect to the LAN, and a couple of extra drive enclosure type things for the big disks. It ought to make a system that's a heck of a lot quieter and less power-hungry.
This is in no way at all, of course, spurred by fact that last week we received a power bill (electricity and gas) for £400 or so. They've been systematically underestimating us for about a year, and a couple of weeks ago a bloke came round and actually took a meter reading.
Gosh, half eight. Almost bed time, no wonder I'm tired...
