It's been far too long since we've updated the website, so, after a very busy spring and summer here's the latest news on the Canniffe Family.
We're looking forward to the Courtmacsherry Storytelling Festival this weekend - this is one of happiest gigs, when we give a concert of Songs of the Sea at the Lifeboat Inn on the sunday afternoon. As always, it's a pleasure to play there.
We're also very excited to be a part of the massive undertaking that is Concert for Tara. This is a massive concert in three locations around the country to raise awareness of the plight of one of our most significant national heritage sites, the Hill of Tara, seat of the high kings of Ireland, which is under threat from a major road-building project.
Combined with gigs in Scotland and Cornwall, it looks like this will be a good time to catch the Canniffe Family! All details are available in our Gigs page, and we'll update with links as they become available.
The 10th and 11th of September marked a highlight for the Canniffe Family - not only did we get to play our beloved Lifeboat Inn Songs of the Sea gig as part of the Courtmacsherry Storytelling Festival, but we also contributed to Ron Kavanagh's fabulous History of Ireland concert in the Cruiscin Lan pub in Cork city, along with such musical luminaries as Dick Gaughan and Niamh Parsons among others.
The History of Ireland concert was an effort to express the rich tapestry of Irish history in the music and poetry that describes it. We covered musical territory from the earliest Irish expressions of culture to the present day, with a poetic narration courtesy of John McGuire.
The Energy of the gig was wonderful, and there was a belief among the participants that we were contributing to something great. And the audience seemed to feel that way as well.
Sunday dawned clear and sunny, to match the sunny dispositions of those audience members at the Songs of the Sea concert in Courtmacsherry's Lifeboat Inn. All of the regulars were there and in fine voice. We had tremendous fun and look forward to Courtmacsherry Storytelling Festival 2006!
Mersey Shanty Festival was a marvellous success, both in general terms and for the Canniffe Family in particular - success in that we met lots of very talented, very wonderful people involved in the organisation of the festival and the participating groups. The Family fondly remember the highly emotional finale on the deck of the Grand Turk, singing along with all the assembled bands.
Many thanks to Jack Coutts and all the organisers and participants for a wonderful weekend.
We had a great time in the Góilín Club on friday night. Many thanks to everyone who turned up and sang with us. have to change the strings and things for the next gig in Cork on the 1st of May. See you there....
We've just added the photos that friend and colleague Tim Foster took with us on our recent photo shoot.
These shots were taken in the super-atmospheric alleyway outside the Stag's Head pub in Dublin.
Stay tuned for more photos.
Finally, we are officially launched! Welcome one and All to www.thecanniffefamily.com!
Here you can find out all there is to know about the Canniffe Family, including our life story, where we'll be playing and what we get up to when there's a camera about.
Stay tuned for all the latest news and gigs. See you at a venue near you!
Hi, The site has undergone a quick redesign and is now looking better than ever. We'll have photos from our recent photo shoot posted over the weekend, and more dates in our gigs list, so stay tuned!
